Gambian consumers get “consumer parliament” to fight exploitation

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) - – Gambia will Saturday launch its “consumer parliament” w ith a view to better protecting members of the general public from exploitation b y service providers, the country’s Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) s aid in a statement received here Thursday by PANA.
The consumer parliament which will be a new forum is in line with PURA's policie s of "Complaint Resolution Mechanism”.
It is designed to put in place “an impartial and effective” consumer complaints resolution mechanism in the areas of telecommunications, electricity and other b u sinesses.
PURA was established through an act of parliament passed in 2001 and has since b een trying to address consumers’ concerns in Gambia.
