Gambian President takes over AIDS Secretariat

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- President Yahya Jammeh's Office at the Gambia's State Ho use in Banjul has announced the transfer of the West African country's national AIDS Secretariat t o the President's office, PANA reported from here Tuesday.
''The President wishes to inform the general public and all those whom it may co ncern that with effect from October 8th, the offices of all the Regional Governors and the National AIDS Sec retariat are now under the purview of the President Office,'' the statement said.
"This move is in a bid to strengthen both the offices of the Governors and the N ational AIDS Secretariat,'' it added.
The statement did not say how the movement of the secretariat will strengthening it, or how the secretariat would work with the Presidential HIV/AIDS Treatment programme, which is based on Afric an traditional herbal medicine practice.
