Gambian President begins briefing on development blueprint

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – President Adama Barrow of the Gambia will start the first quarterly briefing session with sectors on the state of implementation of the country’s development blueprint, his office said on Thursday.

According to Mrs. Amie Bojang-Sissoho, the Director of Press and Public Relations, President  Barrow will have discussions with senior government officials on the progress of Gambia’s National Development Plan (NDP) 2018-2021 between 3rd – 13th April at the State House in Banjul.

Permanent Secretaries and Heads of sectors along with their Ministers will brief the President on the level of implementation of the NDP since its launch in January this year.

The briefing will also spell out plans for the next quarter edition all geared towards achieving the stated goals and objectives of the NDP.

The institutionalization of periodic briefings with the president is one of the strategies of his office in its oversight role to support implementation and coordination of sector activities.

Mrs. Bojang-Sissoho said that it is expected that periodic engagements with sectors on the implementation of their sectoral plans in line with the NDP will improve efficient and effective management.

“The Office of the President has embarked on strategic reforms of its systems and processes to improve monitoring and strategic communication to support the president in delivering his flagship priority programmes within the NDP,” Mrs Bojang-Sissoho added.

During his meeting with senior civil servants in January, President Barrow declared that there would be quarterly review of the stage of implementation of the NDP and thus tasked them to effectively and efficiently engage to deliver to the nation.

Meanwhile, the main goal of the NDP 2018 – 2021 is geared towards delivering good governance and accountability, social cohesion and national reconciliation.

It aims to revitalise and transform the Gambian economy for the well-being of all Gambians.
