Gambian President Barrow names new cabinet

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Gambian President Adama Barrow on Thursday announced a new cabinet for his second term, naming Mr. Alieu Badra Joof as the new vice-president, according to a statement by Gambia  Government Spokesperson, Ebrima G. Sankareh on Thursday.

He said: “The public is hereby informed that His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia, acting on section 71 subsection 1 4b of the constitution of the Republic of The Gambia, hereby relieves Her Excellency, the vice president, Dr Isatou Touray, and all ministers in the cabinet of from their positions with immediate effect. His Excellency, the President of the nation wishes them best in their future endeavours."

Joof, the former Minister of Higher, Science and Technology, replaces Dr. Touray, who was the third vice-president in President Barrow's first term .

President Barrow has maintained 11 ministers, relieved nine of their positions, introduced five new ministers, created two new ministries and the Office for Chief of Staff in the president's office.

Two regional governors are among the new faces while the majority of ministers who were maintained have been reshuffled.  

President Barrow also appointed Salimatta E.T. Touray, a career diplomat, as Secretary General and Head of Civil Service replacing Noah Touray while Mod K. Ceesay is the Chief of Staff.
