Gambia: MFWA organises Media Excellence Conference Awards in October

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) – The maiden edition of the West Africa Media Excellence Conference and Awards (WAMECA) will be held in Accra, Ghana, in October.

According to Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), organizer of the 27-28 October event, it seeks to promote and reward media excellence in the sub-region.

The Executive Director of MFWA, Sulemana Braimah said it was important to celebrate media practitioners, whose works continue to transform societies in West Africa.

“WAMECA seeks to promote excellent journalism and inspire media practitioners researching and publishing compelling stories to make the world a better place,” he said.

WAMECA was recently launched in Accra by Ghana’s Minister for Business Development, Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, who is a journalist by training and former managing director of Ghana’s biggest newspaper organisation, Graphic Communications Group Limited.

The minister highlighted the importance of the media, noting that “society cannot progress without quality and result-oriented journalism”.
