Gambia: ECOMIG soldiers get Peace Medals in Gambia

Banjul, Gambia (PANA) - Sub-regional soldiers serving in the ECOWAS Mission in The Gambia (ECOMIG) will receive ECOWAS Peace Medals for restoring peace and democracy in the tiny West African state, PANA reported Friday.  

In a statement made available to PANA, ECOMIC press officer, Commander Andy La-Anyane, revealed that the award ceremony,which would be the first of its kind in The Gambia, was slated for next Friday, 15 September 2017, at McCarthy Square in Banjul.

"President Adama Barrow will be the Special Guest of Honour while the President of the ECOWAS Commission, Marcel Alain de Souza, will be the Guest of Honour," the statement added.

As part of programme during the medal presentation ceremony, there will be a military parade.

Meanwhile, high level dignitaries from The Gambia and troop contributing states of Nigeria, Senegal and Ghana, are expected to attend the ceremony.
