Paris- France (PANA) – The Vice--Chancellor of the University of Reims Champagne- Ardenne (Eastern France), Richard Vistelle, will on May 6 honour the Secretary G e neral of the International Francophonie Organization (OIF), Mr Abdou Diouf, with a doctorate degree, a communiqué reaching PANA Tuesday said.
The award ceremony will be attended by University members, Mr Diouf's colleagues and the diplomatic corps, the communiqué added.
"By this honorary title (Docteur honoris causa) personalities of foreign nationalities are thanked for eminent services rendered to the Sciences, Arts an d Letters to France or to the higher education institution awarding this title," t he University said.
Aged, 73, Mr Diouf was Senegal's president from 1981 to 2000 before being elected in 2002 in Beirut as OIF Secretary General for a first 4-year term.
He was re-elected as the head of the francophone institution for a second term during the Bucharest, Romania, summit in September 2006.
