Francophonie boss Diouf expected in Kinshasa in April

Kinshasa- DR Congo (PANA) -- Secretary general Abdou Diouf of the International Organisation of the Francophonie (IOF) will visit Kinshasa in April for a working visit, official sources said here Friday.
Diouf's visit is part of a tour that will also take him to Gabon and Congo-Brazzaville, the IOF general commissioner in Kinshasa, Isabelle Matchik Ruth Tshombe said, without elaborating on the itinerary.
She said Diouf's trip to Central Africa is justified by his interest in the region that feels somewhat marginalized after his election to head the IOF last year.
Some countries in the region, especially Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon had proposed the candidacy of Henri Lopès, Congo- Brazzaville ambassador to France, for the position of IOF secretary general.
But Lopes was pressured to withdraw in October in Beirut to enable the consensual election of Diouf.
