France repatriates Guinean students in Côte d'Ivoire

Conakry, Guinea (PANA) - About 20 young Guineans, undergoing training at the Military School in Bingerville, Côte d'Ivoire, arrived Conakry Monday aboard a French military aircraft, a release from the French Embassy, made available to PANA, disclosed.

The embassy said France had repatriated 50 young Guineans at the request of the African country's authorities due to the events in Côte d'Ivoire, where some 20 young people were in training in Bingerville, in a school "which is no more able to deliver the courses" because of the suspension of classes.

Thousands of Guineans living in Cote d'Ivoire for decades are now back home because of post-election violence which involved pro-Laurent Gbagbo forces and those of the president-elect, Alassane Ouatttara.

Hundreds of Ivorians had fled the violence and arrived in Guinea in the early days of the fighting.

They settled in the southern region of Guinea, where they live in the same refugee camps that had hosted those from Liberia and Sierra Leone in 2000.
