France hails Toure's appointment as UN envoy to CAR

Paris- France (PANA) -- France has welcomed the naming of former Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure as UN Secretary General's Special envoy on the crisis in Central Africa Republic.
"This nomination should allow the pursuit of the national reconciliation process began since 1998," the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
It noted that Toure is well known in CAR, where he participated in negotiating peace during similar crisis in 1996-97.
France and other EU members have condemned the 28 May aborted coup attempt that resulted in several deaths in Central African Republic, but noted that fighting had ceased, while the situation was returning to normal in Bangui, the capital.
The Foreign Ministry said Paris and the EU partners were in the process of working out details of humanitarian assistance to the country.
Air link between Paris and Bangui is also expected to resume by Tuesday.
