France: Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize to be awarded on Tuesday

Paris, France (PANA) - The International Jury of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize has decided to award the Prize to Mrs Giuseppina Nicolini, Mayor of Lampedusa (Italy), and to the non-governmental organization, SOS Méditerranée (France), for their work to save the lives of refugees and migrants, and to welcome them with dignity.

The UN cultural organisation, UNESCO, said that the award ceremony will take place at its Headquarters in Paris, France, on Tuesday, 27 June, 2017.

The Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize ceremony will feature statements by Heads of State and Government, or their representatives, as well as musical or artistic performances (by Emma Shaplin, Ballaké Sissoko and Vincent Segal, Ismaël Isaac and Mokobé, Erri de Luca).

The two laureates, Mrs Giuseppina Nicolini and the NGO SOS Méditérranée, will also deliver acceptance speeches.

According to UNESCO, the following Heads of State and Government and officials will witness the event -

Mr Alassane Ouattara, President of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire
Mr Henri Konan Bédié, Former President of the Republic of Cote d'Ivoire, Sponsor of the Prize
Mr Abdou Diouf, Former President of the Republic of Senegal, Patron of the Prize
Mr Jean-Yves Le Drian, French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs
Mr Joaquim Chissano, Former President of the Republic of Mozambique, Chairperson of the Jury of the Félix Houphouët-Boigny Peace Prize
