Four killed in Burundi rebel attack

Bujumbura- Burundi (PANA) -- At least four people, including a soldier of the national army, were killed and three others injured Monday night in an attack by the National Liberation Front (FNL) on positions of the Burundian army, military sources revealed here.
Addressing a news conference Tuesday, Burundi army spokesman Adolphe Maniruhiza said the FNL lost three combatants during the clashes in the southern periphery of Bujumbura, the Burundi capital.
According to witnesses, a stray bullet killed one civilian resident of the area.
In recent times, the regular army, backed by the ex-rebel Forces for the Defence of Democracy (FDD), has intensified the hunt of FNL combatants in rural Bujumbura, compelling them to retreat into the east of neighbouring DR Congo.
The rebel movement has repeatedly refused to hold talks with the Bujumbura government on the restoration of peace to the country.
