Fabius endorses resumption of co-operation with Abidjan

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- French finance Minister Laurent Fabius on Wednesday encouraged multilateral and bilateral institutions to resume co-operation with Cote d'Ivoire following an improvement of the internal political situation.
Addressing a news conference in Abidjan in the presence of co-operation minister Charles Josselin, Fabius said Paris would back Cote d'Ivoire during its negotiations with the Bretton Woods institutions in May.
"We have a positive assessment of the democratic process in Cote d'Ivoire" the minister told a news conference at the end of the 11th Franc Zone ministerial conference.
"Meanwhile, we do not interfere with national issues," Fabius said, adding: "We hope that the World Bank and the ADB will resume their assistance to Cote d'Ivoire" "We support Cote d'Ivoire's development, because it is extremely important for the development of the Franc Zone", Fabius added.
He reassured Franc Zone member states that the introduction of Euro in 2002 would not affect the parity between the French Franc and the CFA.
