Ex-Junta Soldier Arrested

Abidjan- Cote d'Ivoire (PANA) -- An Ivorian soldier accused of deserting his unit in May 2000, has been arrested by a joint police and gendarmerie patrol unit in Korhogo, some 600-km north of Abidjan, a military source said Thursday.
Corporal Kone Adama, a security personnel with deposed military junta leader Brig.
-Gen.
Robert Guei, was arrested on his way to Boundiali, in the north of the country.
Said to be in possession of some ammunition, he was handed over to the National gendarmerie unit, which is expected to send him to a military tribunal, the source added.
Ivoirian Defence and Civil Protection Minister, Moise Lida Kouassi has appealed to all deserting to report to their respective units.
Security checks and patrols have been stepped up in Korhogo, the northern provincial headquarters, a stronghold of opposition politician and former Prime Minister Alasane Ouattara.
The town is under heavy security.
