Ethiopian crisis: Ethiopian forces 'liberate' more towns and cities

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - The Ethiopian government says the coalition of security forces led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has liberated the historical city of Dessie and the industrial town of Kombolecha from the rebel Tigray People's Liberation Frint (TPLF).

The official Government Communication Service said in a statement on Monday that the coalition of security forces has also liberated Bati, Qersa, Gerba and Dega in the Eastern front and taken full control of Qalu district in the Harbu front.

The state-owned Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) quoted the Government Communication Service as saying "the TPLF terrorist group had committed most heinous massacres on civilians during its occupation of areas in Amhara and Afar regions of Ethiopia".

Selamawit Kassa, State Minister of Government Communication Service, said in addition to the previous massacres committed in various parts of Amhara and Afar regions, "the terrorist group has recently massacred civilian in Gashena and Shoa fronts".

"Mass graves have already been found in these areas," she said, adding that the dreadful crimes committed by the terrorist group in these areas clearly indicate genocide.

She asked the international community to find the true nature of the TPLF, and called for an independent investigation over the crimes it has committed.

“This terrorist group has been carrying out massacres on civilians and even mass graves are being found. The heinous crimes committed by the group must be investigated by an independent group and the world must be made aware of the truth,” Selamawit said.

She said that TPLF had carried out extensive damage on heritage and cultural resources.
