Ethiopia’s chief Intelligence vows to help Sudan reach peace
Port Sudan, Sudan (PANA) - Ethiopia has dispatched its top intelligence service official to the Sudan to assure the military government in Port Sudan, the provisional capital, that Addis Ababa, stands ready to help the Sudan put an end to its current crisis and reach peace in the country.
Ethiopia’s Intelligence Chief Ridwan Hussein arrived in Port Sudan Monday where he was received by his Sudanese counterpart Lieutenant General Ahmed Ibrahim Mufaddal.
The official media said Ridwan was carrying a missive from Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, dealing with relations.
The official media said the visiting Ethiopian Intelligence official has confirmed that his country ‘’will continue its steadfast support for efforts to promote peace and stability in Sudan’’.
Ridwan posted a tweet saying he held discussions with his counterpart, General Mufaddal, at Port Sudan Airport and that he came bearing a message from the Ethiopian Prime Minister to General Al-Burhan.
He also expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and added that his country “will spare no effort in helping to achieve peace in Sudan and the regional area”.
The visit of the Ethiopian official is noted to coincide with the nomination of a new civilian Prime Minister in Sudan, Dr. Kamil Idris, a former Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) from 1997 to 2008.
He was also head of the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV).
It also comes amid security developments on the Ethiopian side of the common Sudanese Ethiopian borderlines and recent gains made by the Sudanese army against para-military Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the ongoing conflict in the Sudan which erupted in April 2023.
