Ethiopia condoles with South Africa over Mandela’s death

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) – Nelson Mandela’s legacy, the values for which he fought -- peace, love, forgiveness and freedom -- will always remain in the memory of generations, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday following the passing of South Africa’s first majority rule president.

“It is with great sorrow that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has learned the death of Mandela,” the ministry said, recalling how South Africa’s number one freedom fighter “made great strides in fighting the apartheid regime and contributed to the country's development and progress.”

“Mandela has a special place in Ethiopia as he was hosted and trained here in his struggle to dismantle the apartheid regime,” the ministry’s statement added, expressing condolences to the families and friends of the late Mandela and to the people and government of the Republic of South Africa.
