Ethiopia: Somaliland, Ethiopia focus on infrastructure development

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) - Ethiopian Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn has said his government will work with Somaliland administration, a neighbouring autonomous region of Somalia, on infrastructure development for mutual benefit.

The Prime Minister made the remark during discussion in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, with a delegation from Somaliland led by Muse Behi Abdi, Kulmiye Party presidential nominee, the government-run Ethiopian News Agency (ENA) reported on Friday.

According to the agency, the discussion focused on ways of enhancing infrastructure development, particularly roads, in order to improve links between the two sides and to enable Ethiopia use the port of Berbera in Somaliland.

Hailemariam said that Ethiopia would work with the Somaliland administration to realize mutual benefit by enhancing infrastructure integration, ENA quoted Transport minister Ahmed Shide as saying.

According to the minister, the two sides have agreed on the need to work together to sustain peace and security as well as mitigate the current drought vulnerability in the region.

Somaliland Foreign minister Saad Ali Shire told ENA that Ethiopia and Somaliland will continue to work together not only for mutual benefit but also for stability of the region.

He said that the two sides have agreed to develop the port of Berbera, which would enable them enhance their ties.
