Ethiopia: African Union condemns terrorist attack at UK's Manchester Arena

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (PANA) -  African Union (AU) Commission Chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat has condemned "in the strongest terms the horrific terrorist bomb attack at a concert attended by thousands of young fans in the northern English city of Manchester", that lead to at least 22 deaths and left dozens of others injured on Monday.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Commission, Mr. Mahamat expressed the AU’s solidarity with the Government and people of the United Kingdom. He also conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished speedy recovery to the injured.

"The Chairperson of the Commission reaffirms the AU’s strong rejection of all acts of terrorism and violent extremism which have no place in modern society," said the statement, reiterating the commitment of the AU to work with the UK, and all stakeholders, in the prevention and combating of terrorism and violent extremism, within the frameworks of the relevant AU, UN and international instruments.

Also, Mr. Mahamat stressed the need for enhanced international cooperation in sharing relevant information, intelligence and data among relevant agencies, in the fight against international terrorism.
