Ethiopia: AUC Chairperson receives highest national Order of Serbia

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia - Serbian President TomislavNikolic has bestowed African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma  with the highest Order of the Republic of Serbia on Strips, the Commission said here Thursday.

In a statement, the AUC announced the delivery of the Award to the Chairperson by the Ambassador of Serbia to Ethiopia and the African Union, Mr. Dragan Mraovic, who read a special message in his capacity as Special Envoy of the President of Serbia.

During a ceremony that took place at the AU headquarters in Addis Ababa, the Special Envoy said, the highest Order of the Republic of Serbia on Strips, was awarded to the Chairperson for her “merits in the development and strengthening of peaceful cooperation and friendly relations between the Republic of Serbia and the African Union.”

Expressing Serbia's tribute to the Chairperson "for raising the level and quality of the relations" of his country and the AUC to the high ground, Mr. Mraovic noted that her official visit to Belgrade from 26-30 June 2015, was "the crown of our cooperation."

He added that the Memorandum of Understanding on Economic Cooperation of the Republic of Serbia and the AUC, signed on that occasion, was an important event in bilateral cooperation.

Receiving the Award, Dr. Nkosazana Zuma said that she was very honoured for the award, and thanked Serbia for the continued cooperation between Africa and Serbia. She also recognised the historic role played by the former Yugoslavia, which Serbia continues to play today.
