Eight die in a clash between remote Malian villages

Bamako- Mali (PANA) -- A dispute between residents of two remote Malian villages have left eight persons dead and several others wounded, the Malian Press Agency (AMAP) reported Friday.
It said the quarrel broke out Christmas night between the villages in the Mopti region, some 800km north-east of Bamako.
Fighting erupted over the desire of each of the villages to have the headquarters status of the district to host the new town council, it explained.
The Mopti region is on record as hotbed for perennial land disputes between cattle herders and farmers or farmers against farmers.
