Egyptian Football Association faces FIFA suspension for pro-Sisi conference

Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - The World Football Governing Body, FIFA, says the Egyptian Football Association faces being suspended for organising a conference on Sunday where it expressed support for the Egyptian President, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, who is running for a second term in the upcoming elections this year.

"The association’s pro-Sisi stance could result in it being disqualified from taking part in the World Football Cup tournament that will be held in Russia later this year," FIFA warned, citing its regulations which stipulate that associations must be independent and that governments must not interfere in the affairs of associations and federations.

In October 2015, world sports bodies, led by FIFA, suspended Kuwait for a second time over government interference in sports.
