EU hails Sudan referendum

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The European Union (EU) has hailed the referendum in Sudan, expressing the hope that the exercise would be peaceful to allow for the full implementation of the Global Peace Agreement (CPA) concluded in 2005, according to an EU communiqué transmitted Tuesday to the press from Brussels, the Belgian capital.

The EU said that the self-determination referendum in South Sudan was of the highest importance for sustainable peace in Sudan, while congratulating the parties to the Global Peace Deal for respecting the commitment they had made to organize the referendum.

An EU observer mission was deployed in Sudan, the largest country of Africa.
