EU grants 650,000 euros to Mauritania to tackle malnutrition

Nouakchott- Mauritania (PANA) -- The World Food Programme (WFP) has been given 65 0,000 euros by the European Commission Humanitarian Aid Service (ECHOS) for Maur i tania to feed thousands children under-five as well as pregnant and breast-feedi n g women, according to a statement from WFP on Monday.
This contribution â?actually targets the needs expressed by WFP in Mauritania a nd, thanks to it, we will help 27,000 children, pregnant and breast-feeding wome n for three months through the intermediary of our food centresâ?, said the direc tor of the WFP Office in Mauritania, Guy Gauvreau.
According to investigation on malnutrition among children under-five carried out over the past few years in Mauritania, about 32% of children suffer from weight loss.
