EU Commission Chief congratulates new AU Commission president

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) – The president of the European Union Commission, José Manuel Durao Barroso, on Tuesday sent a message of congratulations to Ms. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma on her election at the head of the African Union (AU) Commission, an official source said here.

In his message, Barroso recalled the solid links between the EU and the AU, especially through the Strategic Partnership Agreement between Africa and Europe on peace and security, democracy and human rights, trade and infrastructure, the fight against climate change and the protection of environment, economy and social development.

Barroso also expressed the hope to see the AU/EU partnership reinforced under the Ms. Dlamini-Zuma's presidency.
