ECOWAS sets up panel on allocation of positions

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has set up a five-member committee, at the level of heads of state, to review the modalities for the allocation of statutory positions within the organisation, according to a communique issued at the end of the bloc's summit here.

The panel, which comprises Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Sierra Leone and Togo, is saddle with reviewing the modalities on the basis of alphabetical order, transparency, equity and predictability.

The committee is expected to submit its findings to the next summit for consideration.

The two-day summit, which ended Thursday, was attended by 10 Presidents and two Vice Presidents.
