ECOWAS observers to monitor Zimbabwe's election

     Lagos- Nigeria (PANA) -- The West African sub-regional group, ECOWAS will at the weekend despatch a three-member team to Zimbabwe to monitor the 9-10 March presidential election in the Southern African country, the ECOWAS Secretariat in Abuja said Tuesday in a statement.
      It said the delegation, which would monitor the election at the invitation of the Zimbabwean government, includes the ECOMOG Liaison Officer, Col.
Dickson Dikio, and two members of the ECOWAS Council of Elders --Rev.
Francis Forbes from the Gambia and Simeon Ake from Cote d'Ivoire.
      The Council is one of the supporting organs set up under the ECOWAS Protocol relating to the Mechanism for Conflict Prevention, Management, Resolution, Peacekeeping and Security.
      ECOWAS teams previously monitored presidential and legislative elections in Liberia, Niger and The Gambia.
