ECOWAS ministers to hold meeting on education systems

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- A conference of Economic Community of West African States education ministers will be held in Dakar, from 24 to 25 September, to discuss "subregional integration of the objectives of education for sustainable development," a UNESCO press release said Thursday.
West African ministers will examine the New Partnership for Africa's Development objectives on education compared to other ongoing African educational initiatives within the framework of the education decade in Africa launched in 1995 and the Education For All forum held in Dakar in April 2000.
The ministers' meeting will also focus in harmonising education systems, coordinating the implementation of related strategies and programmes as well as adopting mechanisms to promote information exchange.
Also to be discussed will be teaching staff and students' mobility, the promotion of national languages teaching, the creation of specialised centres and centres of excellence in the training and scientific research sectors.
Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade will chair the opening ceremony of the conference, which will be preceded by a meeting of experts from 20 to 23 September.
