ECOWAS commiserates with Guinea over top military officers' death

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - ECOWAS Commission President Kadré Ouédraogo has sent a condolence message to President Alpha Conde of Guinea over the death of 12 persons, including the country's Army Chief, Gen. Souleymane Diallo, in a helicopter crash near Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, Monday.

On behalf of the Commission, the President expressed his heartfelt sympathy and solidarity with the government, people and Guinean Armed Forces, as well as the families of the late military officers and crew members, who were on their way to attend Liberia’s Armed Forces Day celebrations, the Commission said in a statement obtained by PANA here Wednesday.

It said Gen. Diallo served his country and the Community creditably, particularly through his contributions to the work of the Regional Committee of Chiefs of Defence Staff.

''His death and those of his military compatriots come at a time when the region is harnessing its military expertise to deal with emerging security challenges,'' the Commission said.
