ECOWAS Parliament president to visit Brussels

Brussels, Belgium (PANA) - The President of the ECOWAS Parliament, Ike Ekweremadu, is expected in Brussels Wednesday for a working visit during which he will hold talks with the president of the European parliament, Martin Schulz, PANA reported, quoting EU official communique.

According to the communiqué, the two men will discuss the crisis in Mali where France has deployed more than 2,000 soldiers to fight, alongside Malian forces, against Islamist Jihadists in the northern part of Mali.

During the debate at the European parliament, European MPs strongly criticized the lack of international support for the French mission in Mali.

Considering that the planes and medical equipment put at the disposal of pro-Mali fighters are reportedly not enough, European MPs have called for the deployment of more ground troops.
