ECOWAS: ECOWAS Chair condemns terrorist attacks in Nigeria

Abuja, Nigeria (PANA) - ECOWAS Chairman and Senegal's President Macky Sall has strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Nigeria that left more than 150 dead and many others injured.

“In these painful circumstances, the Chairman presents his heartfelt condolences to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, and the Government and brotherly people of Nigeria,” President Sall said in a statement released in Dakar, Senegal.

He appealed for greater international mobilization to end terrorism and violent extremism.

The ECOWAS Chair called for an urgent holding of the joint summit of ECOWAS and the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), scheduled for Malabo, Equatorial Guinea, to map out a common strategy against the terrorist groups.

PANA reports that a Nigerian-led, Chad-based regional force is due to deploy by month's end to pep up the battle against Boko Haram, the Nigerian terror group which has been carrying out almost daily terrorists attacks in the country in recent times.
