Disarmament secretariat co-opts CDF officials

Freetown- Sierra Leone (PANA) -- Four senior members of the Civil Defence Force (CDF) have been co-opted to join the secretariat of Sierra Leone's National Disarmament, Demobilisation and Reintegration, or NCDDR.
The NCDDR secretariat's Executive Secretary, Francis Kaikai, told a news conference in Freetown Monday that the senior CDF militia group's officials were appointed last Friday, in a bid to accelerate and expedite the disarmament process.
Two of them have already been posted to the southern town of Bo District and the eastern Kenema district, respectively.
Kaikai explained that the four CDF officials were co-opted following a request by their pro-government militia group.
Nearly a month ago, the disarmament secretariat had taken in six representatives from the rebel Revolutionary United Front (RUF).
