Diouf hails DRC preparations for Francophonie summit

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) – The secretary-general of the international Francophone Organization (OIF), Abdou Diouf, on Thursday lauded preparations by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to host the 14th Francophone summit in Kinshasa in October 2012.

Speaking after a meeting in Kinshasa with president Joseph Kabila of DRC, he said: "We believe if the momentum is maintained, we will have a great summit."

DRC is Africa's biggest francophone State and the world's second biggest francophone country.

Diouf also hailed the efforts of DRC and its leaders in the promotion and influence of the French language and the values that went with it - human rights, rule of law, democracy and respect of civil liberties.

"We are here in a country that is perfectly the expression of what Francophone wants to be, what it is and what it will be more and more; an organization based on norms, values and principles respected by all," he added.
