Deputy FM underlines the need for favourable conditions for stability in Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - Libyan Deputy Foreign Minister for Cooperation and International Organisations, Omar Katti, has said the issue of Libya's stability lies in creating all favourable political, security, military and economic conditions to ensure that this is what the Libyan authorities represented by the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity are seeking.

He was speaking on behalf of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Najla al-Mangouch, during the virtual meeting held on Thursday by the African Union (AU) Peace and Security Council (PSC) to discuss the situation in Libya.

Noting that the country is in the midst of an economic crisis, Katti said Libya will hold a ministerial meeting on 21 October to develop a unified regional and international position and coordinated support for the success of the means of stability and development of the necessary mechanisms to ensure its sustainability in order to reach the elections scheduled for 24 December.

The Libyan official underscored the need to work on the implementation and support of the results of the meetings of the5+5 Joint Military Commission, the complete withdrawal of foreign forces and mercenaries from Libya, the unification of the Libyan military institution, as well as the integration of armed groups,  completion of national reconciliation and the importance of coordinating efforts at all levels to achieve this goal.

The virtual meeting, which was organised by the AU Peace and Security Council to discuss the situation in Libya, was held with the participation of Libya, Egypt, Chad, Burkina, Cameroon, Djibouti, Mozambique and Nigeria, in addition to the Representative of the UN Secretary General to the African Union.
