Death toll in Nigeria tanker fire rises to 95

Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - The death toll in the fuel tanker fire in Okobie village in Ahoada West council area of Nigeria's southern Rivers state has risen to 95, with 18 people injured, the local press reported Thursday, quoting the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Dr. Kayode Olagunju.

Dr. Olagunju had earlier put the death toll from the petrol tanker disaster at 80.

He said 93 bodies were recovered from the scene while two persons died in the hospital.

Some 34 motorcycles were also burnt by the raging fire, triggered when the fallen fuel tanker exploded as villages scooped fuel from it.

The tanker had fallen after crashing into four vehicles in the early hours of Thursday.
