DR Congo's mountain gorillas' numbers increasing

Kinshasa- DR Congo (PANA) -- The number of mountain gorillas in the DR Congo's Virunga National Park has risen from 324 in 1989 to 380 in 2003, according to a study conducted by organisations for the defence of the nature in DR Congo, Uganda and Rwanda.
Despite the insecurity noted in 1989, the park's gorilla population has increased by 17 percent, the study said.
An informed source of the Congolese Institute for the Preservation of Nature (ICCN) said that the study conducted in September and October 2003 was made possible due to the collaboration of the ICCN, the Rwandan Tourism and National Parks Board and Uganda's Preservation of Nature Authority.
