DR Congo: CAR interim president calls for attention on gender issue

Kinshasa, DR Congo (PANA) – The interim president of the Central African Republic (CAR), Mrs Samba Panza, on Monday in Kinshasa called on the International Francophone Organization (OIF), as well as development partners, to pay particular attention to gender issues and the financing of programmes for women.

Speaking at the opening of the second world francophone women forum, Mrs Panza said that the situation of women in her country particularly, and in the francophone space in general, was the concern of all decision-makers.

“The situation in CAR is delicate and worrying. It is the result of humanitarian crisis and killing of all nature,” she said, and called on women from the francophone space to support to her country.

The situation in CAR is marked by severe humanitarian crisis, assassinations and rising insecurity in the sectarian violence between Christians and Muslims.

The CAR president has since left Kinshasa at the end of a 48-hour visit during which she held talks on Sunday with her DRC counterpart, president Joseph Kabila.
