Lagos, Nigeria (PANA) - Many people were feared killed or injured on Friday in an explosion at the state headquarters of the Nigeria police in Maiduguri, capital of northern Borno state, according to local media reports.
Details are sketchy, but indications are that the explosion occurred when a suicide bomber, suspected to be a member of the Islamic sect Boko Haram, detonated his explosive-laden vehicle at the entrance to the tightly-guarded headquarters.
The impact shook the headquarters building and left several window panes shattered.
It was the second explosion in the city on Friday, coming after another blast at the Gidan Dambe area left one person dead.
The victim is suspected to be a member of the sect, and the bomb he was carrying was believed to have exploded prematurely.
Maiduguri is the spiritual base of the sect that has killed over 1,200 in gun and bomb attacks since 2009.
