Court rules out voting by Zimbabweans in Diaspora

Harare- Zimbabwe (PANA) -- The Supreme Court in Zimbabwe, sitting as a Constitutional Court, has dismissed an application by a group of citizens based outside the country for nationals working and living abroad to be allowed to vote in Zimbabwe's parliamentary election scheduled 31 March.
At least three million Zimbabweans live and work outside the country, and had formed a group to press the government to allow them to vote in the upcoming parliamentary poll.
But the Constitutional Court threw out the application, and said it would give full reasons for the dismissal of the case later.
"After considering papers filed of record and submissions made by both counsels, the court unanimously concluded that this application has no merit and is hereby dismissed," the court said in its ruling on Thursday.
The Zimbabwe government had earlier barred Zimbabweans outside the country from voting in the election.
