Course on AIDS introduced in African schools of journalism

Bamako- Mali (PANA) -- The workshop intended to introduce lessons on HIV/AIDS in African schools of journalism and communication, which started here Tuesday, is m eant to evaluate information processing on AIDS in the West African media.
Organised on the initiative of the US NGO (ACI-OSIWA), the workshop comes within the framework of the follow-up to the meeting held in Saly (Senegal) with the o f ficials of nine African countries.
The NGO had proposed to organise a sub-regional tour to work with schools on way s and means of introducing lessons on HIV/AIDS into their curricula in the light of the recommendations of the Saly workshop.
Participants from Benin, Burkina-Faso, Cape Verde, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo participated in the Saly workshop.
Based in Dakar, the regional ACI-OSIWA office worked for the prevention of the s pread and the mitigation of the social and economic impacts of HIV/AIDS on the p opulation.
It also seeks to enlighten participants on ways to reduce HIV transmission and S TIs rates, as well as the promotion of information and documentation, data colle c tion, dissemination and exchange on HIV/AIDS, the person's sexual and reproducti v e health.
