Côte d’Ivoire: Gendarmerie to be opened to girls in 2015

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) – The Ivorian government on Wednesday decided to admit girls to the Gendarmerie from 2015-2016 academic year.

The government spokesperson, Bruno Nabagné Koné, said that a quota of 10% will be reserved for girls.

He justified the measure as a decision to be in accord with international standards in terms of gender equality.

Côte d’Ivoire has also opened the entry to technical preparatory military school (EMPT) to girls.
