Côte d’Ivoire: Body of footballer Steve Gohouri to arrive in Abidjan Wednesday

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) – The body of Ivorian international footballer, Steve Gohouri, found dead in the Rhine, near Düsseldorf, on 31 December, will arrive on Wednesday in Abidjan, sports sources told PANA on Tuesday.

Reported missing on 12 December, after attending a Christmas feast organized by his club Steinbach – German fourth football division – the dead body of Steve Gohouri was found on 1 January in the Rhine, near Düsseldorf.

Before the announcement of his death, he had told his close friends that he would travel to Paris to join his family. But he never got there.

The German police concluded that the footballer committed suicide, according to the Ivorian ambassador in Germany, Léon Adom Kacou.

Steve Gohouri will be buried Friday at the municipal cemetery of Williamsville in Abidjan, after a series of tribute at the Ivorian football federation (FIF) headquarters.

He had been selected 13 times in the Ivorian football team between 2007 and 2009. He began his career in 2005 with Young Boys of Berne, in Switzerland. Then, he had performed in the Bundesliga, in Borussia Mönchenglabach and in the English club of Wigan. He was aged 34.
