Côte d’Ivoire: AfDB gives Comoros 7 million Euros for capacity building

Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire (PANA) – The African Development Bank (AfDB) has approved a grant of 7.61 million Euros for Comoros to finance the second stage of the country’s institutional capacity building programme (PRCI), a communiqué issued by the financial institution and received by PANA on Tuesday says.

PRCI phase 2, which will be executed from December 2015 to April 2019, will help the country in its process to gradually get out of its fragile situation. It will also enable it to continue the improvement process for the management of public funds which AfDB supported through PRCI phase 1 that ended in October 2015, and contributed to the modernization of the public expenditure chains.

The operational goals for PRCI phase 2 are the improvement of the mobilization of internal resources through particularly the operational process of a new unified and semi-autonomous tax administration, the improvement of the implementation of the development strategy through among other points a production of more reliable socioeconomic statistics, as well as the improvement of a public investment programme strongly aligned on the country’s development priorities.

The improvement of the internal resources and the more efficient implementation of the country’s development strategy targeted in the PRCI 2 will help create favourable conditions for the financing of priority programmes to get Comoros out of its fragile situation.

That expenditure includes the financing of energy infrastructure which shortage is one of the main problems for Comoros' socio-economic development.
