Congo's Lopez wins support for Francophonie post

Dakar- Senegal (PANA) -- A group of Senegalese intellectuals and artists have created a support committee for Henri Lopes who is vying to be thenext Secretary General of the International Organisation of the Francophonie currently occupied by the Egyptian Boutros Boutros-Ghali.
A new OIF head is to be elected during the 26-27 October summit in Beirut, Lebanon.
Boutros-Ghali is seeking re-election.
"We think that Henri Lopes, now Congo's ambassador in Paris, has the right profile to exercise the functions of OIF Secretary general," the intellectuals said in a statement issued in Dakar Friday.
The group of intellectuals headed by Mamadou Seck, a former Director of the UNESCO Central Europe Office, pledged to campaign for Lopes within Francophone African countries.
"Africans need to rally behind this candidate who was backed by 22 Francophone African presidents during the last OAU summit in Lusaka," Seck told PANA in Dakar Saturday.
