Congo: Global Fund grants Congo US$3m

Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - The Global Fund for AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria has given Congo US$3.6 million to finance HIV intervention activities in six departments of the country, according to an official statement.

The grant falls within the framework of the second phase of the project aimed at supporting national response to HIV among the populations at risk in Congo.

The grant followed strong negotiations between the country and the Fund, and the grant agreement was signed recently in the capital city of Brazzaville.

To ensure a good management of the funds, the national coordination committee has identified the French Red Cross as main partner.

PANA reports that the project to be covered by the grant are in the Departments of Cuvette and Sangha (North), as well as Lekoumou and Bouenza in the South-west, among others.

For the past 10 years, the Global Fund has financed projects on AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in Congo worth 51 billion CFAF (US$100.6 million)
