Congo: China donates medical equipment to Congo

Brazzaville, Congo (PANA) - The Chinese government has donated  medical equipment, worth US$ 815,000 (432 million CFA francs), to Congo to support the African country's fight against the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), according to the Chinese ambassador in Congo, Guan Jian.

The equipment includes protection masks, medical examination rubber gloves,  shoe covers, protective glasses and hand and back sprayers.

It also includes bedpans for stooling, non-contact infrared thermometers, human scales, uniforms for doctors and dry batteries.

Ambassador Jian also announced that his country would send a new aid package, valued at US$ 82 million (about 41 billion CFA francs), which will make its total contributions in the fight against EVD in West Africa to US$ 122 million (about 61 billion CFA francs).

China will send teams of public health experts to share their expertise and contribute to the prevention and control mechanisms of the disease.

"There are 200 Chinese health experts working in the affected countries. At the same time, a China-Africa cooperation plan in the field of public health will be launched, and China will help Africa to establish a data bank on public health and a network of prevention and control  network and epidemic monitoring," the Chinese diplomat added.
