Cape Verdean Cristy Spencer crowned Miss ECOWAS 2013

Praia, Cape Verde (PANA) - Cape Verde's Cristy Spencer has won the 2013 edition of Miss ECOWAS beauty pageant, which was held Sunday evening in Abidjan, Côte d' Ivoire, PANA reported Tuesday.

In August, the 18-year-old woman also won the Miss Cape Verde 2013, which gave her the opportunity to represent her country at the Miss World beauty pageant in Jakarta, Indonesia, in September.

She however missed the Miss World pageant due to an injury she suffered a day before the event.
But she managed to recover in time to win the Miss ECOWAS pageant.

Spencer is the fourth woman from Cape Verde to win the title, after Carmelinda Gonçalves (1996), Wilsa Fortes Pina (2002) and Tânia Neves (2005).

In last year's edition, Cape Verdean Tirzah Ellen Évora finished second.
