Cape Verde to host WAFU-A Women’s Champions League qualifiers

Cairo, Egypt (PANA) - The West Zone A (WAFU-A) has confirmed Cape Verde as the host of the inaugural TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League qualifying tournament

The debut club competition will be held in the city of Sao Vicente from the 24 to 30 July, 2021, with four teams vying for the zone’s only ticket to the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Champions League 2021.

Sao Vicente is one of the Barlavento islands, the northern group in the Cape Verde archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean, off the West African coast.

The participating clubs are from host nation Cape Verde, Senegal, Liberia and Mali while The Gambia, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Guinea-Bissau didn’t register a club to represent them.

Seven Star will be flying the host country’s flag; Senegalese champions, AS Dakar Sacre Couer, will battle alongside the champions of Mali, AS Mande, and Determine Girls of Liberia.

The tournament will pitch all the teams against each other in a round-robin format to determine the winner.

The regional body says the tournament will help promote women’s football and increase the number of participants and professionalism in the game.

Seven teams will qualify for the final tournament through the zonal qualifiers in addition to champion club from the host country.
