Bujumbura- Burundi (PANA) -- Calm has returned to Bujumbura and its surroundings Friday after a spate of fighting between government and rebel forces on the outskirts of the city.
Army spokesperson Col.
Augustin Nzabampema said rebels of the Forces for the Defence of Democracy (FDD) fired 37 82-mm shells from the hills overhanging the Burundian capital on Thursday killing at least six civilians and causing serious damage to three houses.
The rebels also fired missiles at Burundi's second largest city, Gitega, destroying a local brewery.
