CEN-SAD condemns NATO's contempt for AU initiative on Libya

Tripoli, Libya (PANA) - The Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD) has denounced the contempt shown by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) regarding the African Union (AU) initiative on Libya calling for a cease-fire.

The Secretariat of CEN-SAD said in a statement, released Wednesday evening in Tripoli, that this attitude is "in contempt against Africa and African bodies, as well as a deliberate intention to terrorize and intimidate part of the population of that African country for shameful political and economic purposes."

The statement said that NATO plans the partition of Libya and to trigger a civil war with disastrous consequences both for Libya and for the sub-region.

"CEN-SAD is following with great concern NATO's murderous fury on Libya and the massive bombing of Tripoli in particular these days where a hundred bombs are discharged daily on the city, causing deaths, injuries among residents and property damage," the statement said.

CEN-SAD has requested an immediate cessation of bombings and sabotage of the African Union peace plan and praised "the stoicism of the Libyan people asphyxiated by an absolutely illegal air and sea embargo. "
